Hamilton’s 10th anniversary performance to support immigrant assistance initiatives through fundraising efforts.

The 10th anniversary celebration of the groundbreaking Broadway musical “Hamilton” is poised to take on an additional significance this August. The performance, scheduled for August 6 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, will function as a fundraising event for the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition, a collaborative effort of 14 nonprofit organizations dedicated to serving various immigrant communities. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of “Hamilton,” has confirmed that the event is expected to generate approximately million for the coalition, which supports critical immigration services.

The event, dubbed “HamilTEN,” is invite-only and includes not only the performance but also a reception hosted by Miranda himself. Special invitations have been extended to every past cast member, while the remaining attendees will be selected through a Prizeo-sponsored sweepstakes. Participants in the sweepstakes are encouraged to donate a minimum of to be eligible for a chance to attend the performance.

In addition to general admissions, a limited selection of VIP packages ranging from ,500 to ,000 has been made available for purchase through the Hispanic Federation, with all proceeds directed to further assist the coalition’s services. This concerted effort highlights the urgent needs of immigrant groups that have faced significant financial challenges, especially in light of recent funding cuts by the federal government. As demand for their services escalates, the coalition aims to ensure continued support and advocacy for immigrant rights and resources.

The evening is symbolic on multiple fronts; it not only commemorates the legacy of Alexander Hamilton, the nation’s first treasury secretary, but also raises awareness of the contemporary struggles faced by immigrant communities in the United States. Although Hamilton did not identify himself as an immigrant, his life story reflects the trials and triumphs often associated with the immigrant experience. Miranda articulated that Hamilton’s narrative, stemming from his Caribbean roots and challenging upbringing, resonates with many who navigate similar journeys today.

The phrase “Immigrants: We Get the Job Done,” originally a line from the musical, has become emblematic of the coalition’s mission. It underscores the contributions of immigrants to the fabric of American society and the importance of recognizing their role in both historical and modern contexts.

Miranda’s involvement with immigrant advocacy is not new; he previously supported the coalition in 2017 with various fundraising initiatives, including a star-studded music video that celebrated immigrant contributions. Through events like the HamilTEN performance, Miranda and the coalition seek to reaffirm the value of immigrants and their continued impact on the nation.

As excitement builds for this milestone performance, the dual purpose of entertainment and philanthropy embodies the enduring relevance of both the musical and its message.
