Accused assassin Vance Boelter alleges Governor Walz was involved in a conspiracy in a confession letter to the FBI.
A man has been charged with assassinating a Minnesota lawmaker and critically injuring another in an incident authorities are describing as a politically motivated attack. Vance Boelter, 57, faces multiple state and federal murder charges after the attack that resulted in the deaths of Democratic House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman, while Democratic state Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also targeted, sustaining serious injuries.
Evidence has emerged suggesting that Boelter authored a letter filled with conspiratorial claims, which he allegedly sent to the FBI. In this letter, he asserted that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had instructed him to kill Senator Amy Klobuchar as part of a broader plot to enhance the governor’s political standing. The nearly two-page document, reportedly discovered in a Buick left near Boelter’s home, outlined not only his admission of guilt for shooting Hoffman and Hortman but also named additional targets that included prominent figures within the Democratic Party.
According to investigations, the attacks occurred in the early hours of June 14, 2025. Boelter is accused of impersonating a police officer when he arrived at Hoffman’s Champlin residence and, upon being allowed entry, opened fire, striking Hoffman nine times. His wife was hit eight times in the rapid exchange of gunfire. Approximately 90 minutes later, Boelter executed a similar approach at Hortman’s home in Brooklyn Park, resulting in fatalities for both her and her husband.
Senator Hoffman and his wife were promptly rushed to an area hospital, where they underwent emergency surgeries. Reports indicate that Senator Hoffman remains in critical condition, while Yvette Hoffman has been released to recover at home.
Following the shooting incident involving the Hoffmans, law enforcement initiated a welfare check at Hortman’s residence. It was during this intervention that they encountered Boelter. Wearing a black tactical vest and badge, he immediately opened fire on law enforcement before fleeing the scene.
Boelter was apprehended on Sunday night after a manhunt that Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley labeled as “the largest in state history.” While police continue to investigate the motives behind these attacks, they recovered a manifesto from a simulated police vehicle used by Boelter, which reportedly contained a list of numerous names, primarily comprising Democratic officials and individuals associated with pro-abortion rights advocacy.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities stress the importance of understanding the underlying motivations for this alarming violence and are continuing their examination into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
