Adrienne Adams begins her first major ad campaign for NYC mayoral race amid questions on whether she can gain traction in time.

In a significant move as she campaigns for the 2025 Democratic mayoral primary, Adrienne Adams has unveiled a multi-million dollar advertising campaign aimed at positioning herself as a pragmatic leader capable of transcending the tumultuous nature of New York City politics. The campaign initiative comes as Adams, the current City Council Speaker, seeks to consolidate her support in a crowded field while also raising valid concerns about her name recognition and potential to resonate with voters before the June 24 primary.

The campaign advertisement, titled “Rise Above,” is a concise 30-second spot characterized by a soulful piano gospel composition. In it, Adams articulates her commitment to addressing key issues, stating that she is not campaigning for power or accolades but rather for the future of children in the city, emphasizing themes of affordability, safety, and justice.

Adams’ advertisement was scheduled to debut across television and digital platforms, following her successful unlocking of public matching funds last week, which netted over million for her campaign. This financial boost is critical in enhancing her outreach efforts just weeks ahead of the primary election and early voting, slated to commence on June 14.

Despite this progress, polls indicate that Adams still faces a hurdle in gaining widespread recognition among the electorate. A recent Marist poll positioned her in third place, gaining 11% support, while frontrunner Andrew Cuomo attracted 44% and second-place candidate Zohran Mamdani garnered 22%. Notably, Adams’ polling performance represents her strongest showing thus far, bolstered by endorsements from prominent figures, including New York Attorney General Letitia James, as well as support from DC 37, the city’s largest public sector union.

While the future remains uncertain, some political analysts are optimistic about Adams’ potential. Strategist Trip Yang observed that her ascension in the polls before initiating a significant advertising campaign might suggest a favorable trajectory. He highlighted the advantage of her recent access to matching funds and indicated that her relatively lower spending suggests a higher potential for growth compared to her competitors.

The rollout of her advertisement closely follows the first Democratic primary debate, where she engaged directly with Cuomo, confronting him over his record, particularly regarding cuts to essential services during his tenure as governor.

As the primary date approaches, Adrienne Adams is positioning herself strategically in a race that continues to evolve, reflecting both her aspirations and the complex dynamics of New York City politics. With a dedicated campaign and a message aimed at unity and community welfare, Adams is determined to carve a path toward a successful bid for mayor.
