Amish mother drove golf cart with three children into lake; four-year-old son and husband later found dead.

Authorities in Ohio are conducting an investigation into the tragic deaths of an Amish man and his four-year-old son, recently recovered from Atwood Lake. The discovery comes following a distressing incident where the boy’s mother, reportedly experiencing a “spiritual delusion,” acted with apparent intent to drive her three other children into the lake.

The mother, whose identity has not been revealed, is anticipated to face charges as early as Tuesday, days after the bodies of 45-year-old Marcus Miller and his son, four-year-old Vincen Miller, were found. According to reports from local media, the bodies were retrieved from the lake over the weekend after deputies were alerted to a possible golf cart crash near the water around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered that the mother, along with her 15-year-old daughter and twin 18-year-old sons, had made it safely to shore. However, indications from the mother suggested a troubling situation regarding her husband and child, which led authorities to be concerned for their welfare. Initial statements made by the mother claimed that she had “given her son to the Lord,” raising immediate alarms.

Sheriff Orvis Campbell of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office characterized the mother’s actions as deliberate and noted her unbalanced mental state during the incident. Following a search prompted by the mother’s claims, the body of Vincen was located later that day, while Marcus’s body was discovered the following morning.

Although the exact causes of death have not yet been disclosed, autopsies are planned as part of the ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings reveal that both Marcus and his wife believed they were receiving divine messages, which purportedly influenced their actions. In a bid to demonstrate their faith, the couple reportedly entered the water early Saturday morning. While the mother returned to shore, Marcus reportedly attempted to swim further into the lake in pursuit of a sandbar but did not resurface.
