Arab, Islamic nations and Western countries show support for Trump’s peace plan for Gaza.

In a significant diplomatic development, United States President Donald Trump has unveiled a comprehensive 20-point peace proposal aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza. This initiative follows a recent meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who expressed his endorsement of the plan.

The proposal calls for the disarmament of Hamas and has garnered positive responses from various stakeholders, including the Palestinian Authority (PA), which oversees the West Bank, as well as several Arab nations in the region. The PA welcomed the efforts, emphasizing its commitment to collaborate with the United States and other regional entities in pursuit of a peaceful resolution that ensures humanitarian assistance for Gaza, the release of hostages, and the protection of Palestinian rights.

In a statement, the PA articulated its dedication to establishing mechanisms that safeguard the Palestinian population, uphold the ceasefire agreements, and prevent unilateral actions that contravene international law. The PA underscored the necessity of a comprehensive peace agreement that honors the two-state solution, paving the way for an independent and sovereign State of Palestine alongside Israel, founded on mutual respect and security.

While Hamas indicated that it is considering the U.S. proposal “in good faith,” the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) expressed concerns, describing the plan as potentially destabilizing for the region. Nonetheless, the PIJ acknowledged the ongoing discourse surrounding this complex issue.

A coalition of foreign ministers from Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and the UAE released a joint statement commending Trump’s efforts to facilitate peace in Gaza. Their statement reiterated a commitment to work collaboratively with the United States to ensure a comprehensive agreement that guarantees humanitarian aid and addresses the needs of the Palestinian people.

Support for the peace initiative has also been echoed by regional leaders. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised Trump’s leadership and expressed Turkiye’s willingness to assist in the diplomatic process to achieve a just and lasting peace. Moreover, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif articulated hope that a durable resolution would enhance political stability and economic growth across the region.

Responses to Trump’s proposal have also emerged from Western leaders. French President Emmanuel Macron urged Israel to engage in constructive dialogue, while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called for collective efforts to realize the agreement. The importance of international collaboration in achieving a lasting resolution has been a recurring theme among various leaders.

As the situation evolves, the international community remains invested in fostering dialogue and seeking a path toward lasting peace that recognizes the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people, ensuring stability across the region.
