Australia defeats India by three wickets in Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

In a thrilling encounter during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, Australia secured a stunning victory against India, triumphing by three wickets in a record run chase. The match, held at the YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, showcased exemplary performances from key players, most notably Alyssa Healy, whose century set the tone for Australia’s successful pursuit of a formidable target of 331 runs.

Healy, leading the Australian side, displayed exceptional skill and aggression, scoring 142 runs off 107 balls, which included three sixes and an impressive 21 fours. She opened the innings alongside Phoebe Litchfield; their partnership contributed significantly, as they added 85 runs before Litchfield fell for 40 runs. Despite the early loss of her partner, Healy continued to dominate the Indian bowling attack, forging another critical alliance with seasoned all-rounder Ellyse Perry.

Perry, who had recently recovered from injury, returned to the crease at a crucial moment, stepping in after Healy’s dismissal. Although she faced difficulties with mobility, Perry’s experience shone through as she combined effectively with Kim Garth to guide Australia past the finish line. Perry ultimately sealed the match with a signature six, underlining Australia’s resilience and tactical acumen, ensuring their continuity in the tournament as unbeaten champions.

The Indian team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, showcased their competitive spirit and made notable contributions as well, particularly from star batter Smriti Mandhana, who broke records by reaching 5,000 runs in women’s ODIs in just 112 innings. Mandhana scored a commendable 80 runs, helping India establish a strong foundation with a 155-run opening partnership with Pratika Rawal, who added 75 runs.

However, India’s challenges in the late overs of their innings and their inability to sustain momentum proved costly. Kaur acknowledged the need for improvement, particularly in the crucial final overs, as India remained in third place while looking forward to turning their fortunes around in their upcoming matches.

As the tournament progresses, Australia’s victory further cements their position as a frontrunner, while India continues to work on their strategy for future games. Both teams are set to face their next challengers, with Australia scheduled to play against Bangladesh.

For cricket enthusiasts and sports fans globally, this match not only highlighted the resilience and skill present in the women’s game but also set the stage for further exciting encounters in this prestigious tournament.
