Beauty influencer killed during live TikTok stream in Mexico.

Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old TikTok beauty influencer, was tragically shot and killed while live-streaming from a beauty salon in Zapopan, Mexico, on Tuesday. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with initial reports suggesting the possibility of femicide, a term used to describe the intentional killing of a woman based on her gender.

Marquez was actively engaging with her followers and showcasing beauty products when the shocking event occurred. According to police reports, two men approached the salon, with one reportedly inquiring if Marquez was present. Upon confirming her identity, he handed her a small gift. Just moments later, during her livestream, Marquez can be seen holding a stuffed pig and making light-hearted comments, seemingly unaware of the impending danger. The live stream abruptly captured the horrific moment when she was shot once in the chest and subsequently in the head, leading her body to slump over in her chair. The disturbing act unfolded within the view of her audience, who were left horrified and confused.

Currently, no arrests have been made in connection with this case, and investigators are actively searching for suspects. The man presumed to be the shooter was not visible in the livestream, although a woman could be seen briefly before the video ended. Her identity remains unknown.

Marquez had amassed a considerable following on social media, with over 100,000 TikTok followers and thousands more on Instagram, reflecting her popularity and influence in the beauty community. Although the motive for her murder is still under investigation, Mexican authorities are treating it as a femicide, emphasizing the broader issue of violence against women in the country.

In a broader context, Marquez’s killing occurred amid a spate of violence in Zapopan, a city located approximately 275 miles west of Mexico City. On the same day, former Mexican congressman Luis Armando Cordova Diaz was also shot dead at a cafe, underscoring an alarming trend of high-profile killings in the area.

As Mexican authorities continue to investigate these tragic events, the safety of public figures and influencers, particularly women, remains a pressing concern in the ongoing battle against gender-based violence in Mexico.
