Billy Joel’s wife thanks supporters and shares optimism for recovery from brain disorder.

Billy Joel’s wife, Alexis Roderick Joel, expressed gratitude to fans and supporters on Monday following the announcement of the iconic musician’s diagnosis with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a condition affecting the brain. In a heartfelt message posted on her husband’s Instagram account, Roderick Joel acknowledged the overwhelming support they have received. She emphasized the importance of Joel, stating that he is not only a beloved public figure but also a father and husband whose well-being is central to their family. The family remains hopeful for his recovery and looks forward to reconnecting with fans in the future.

The post included a touching photograph of the couple alongside their two daughters, Della and Remy, encapsulating the familial love and support surrounding Joel during this challenging time. At 76 years old, Joel announced on Friday the cancellation of all of his upcoming concerts as he embarks on a recovery journey following his diagnosis.

According to a statement shared on his Instagram account, Joel is currently undergoing specialized physical therapy under medical guidance and has been advised to refrain from performing while he focuses on his recovery. Normal pressure hydrocephalus is characterized by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. This condition can lead to an expansion of the brain’s cavities, subsequently resulting in various health challenges including vomiting, vision issues, and memory loss, as noted by the National Institutes of Health.

Joel’s medical team has indicated that performing could exacerbate his condition, thus leading to the difficult decision to cancel his shows. The artist had previously rescheduled several performances this year due to health concerns. In January, he postponed a concert in South Florida due to an undisclosed medical procedure, and in February, he concerned fans after falling while on stage at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Connecticut. Following these events, he announced a four-month tour postponement in March, initially planning a return to the stage on July 5 in Pittsburgh. However, all concerts have now been called off through at least July 3, 2026.

The emotional support from the community has been robust, with messages of encouragement pouring in from loved ones, including Joel’s ex-wife, Christie Brinkley. She conveyed her best wishes for a speedy recovery, urging him to prioritize his health during this crucial time.

As Billy Joel navigates this health challenge, fans and friends alike remain hopeful for his recovery, eagerly awaiting his return to the stage as he focuses on regaining his strength.
