BirdStock secures grant funding for the 2024 festival and announces the date for the 2025 event.
BirdStock, the annual music festival in Bird Rock, has secured grant funding to support its recent event and has officially set a date for its next occurrence in 2025. This long-standing free festival brings together merchants, musicians, and community members, offering a wide array of entertainment options, including activities such as pickleball, miniature golf, balloon animals, and bounce houses. The previous year’s event was notably significant as it marked the first instance of La Jolla Boulevard being closed for the festival, enhancing the experience for attendees.
At the recent meeting of the Bird Rock Community Council (BRCC) on April 8, President Joe Terry announced that the council had successfully obtained a ,000 special-event grant designated for the 2024 BirdStock festival. This particular funding initiative was established by former State Senator Toni Atkins prior to her departure from office last fall and is administered by the City of San Diego in collaboration with the Business Improvement District (BID) Alliance.
The council is now also preparing to apply for grant assistance for BirdStock 2025, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 25. The grant funding is crucial for covering various costs associated with the event, including musician fees, necessary street closures, and insurance requirements. Additionally, it allows for increased support for the Bird Rock Foundation, an organization that benefits Bird Rock Elementary School.
In related BRCC news, discussions have continued regarding sign and lighting projects within the community. The installation of two monument signs along La Jolla Boulevard, designed to feature large boulders with pelican statues, has encountered delays. Key decisions regarding the specifics of the project, such as the number and size of the pelicans and the inscriptions to be displayed, remain unresolved as the council awaits further guidance from city officials.
Furthermore, a separate initiative to install color-programmable uplighting fixtures on trees along La Jolla Boulevard is progressing, with the BRCC board recently voting to purchase 72 fixtures for 36 trees. The team is currently working with city staff to secure the necessary permits for installation.
Offering insights into the area’s history, BRCC Vice President Joe Parker continues his monthly “5 Minutes of Bird Rock” presentations aimed at fostering community engagement. The BRCC also plans to revitalize its newsletter, transitioning to a primarily electronic format, with aspirations of enhancing its digital presence.
The next meeting of the Bird Rock Community Council is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, at Bird Rock Elementary School, located at 5371 La Jolla Hermosa Avenue. For additional information, interested parties can visit the council’s website at birdrockcc.org. Media News Source.
