Body recovered from East River as search continues for two missing teens presumed drowned.

Emergency responders recovered a male body from the East River on Friday evening, marking a tragic development in ongoing search efforts for two teenagers believed to have drowned in separate incidents last week. The recovery took place around 7 p.m., following a 911 report about a body floating near East 34th Street and the FDR Drive in Manhattan. Responding units, including the NYPD Harbor Unit and FDNY vessel Marine 6, pronounced the individual dead at the scene, subsequently turning the investigation over to the NYPD.

This discovery marks the second recovery of the day in the East River. Earlier that morning, first responders retrieved the body of a man in his 30s, whose identity has not been disclosed. Although officials have confirmed that the body recovered in the evening is male, they have yet to determine the individual’s age or identity. The authorities have indicated that the investigations into both cases are ongoing as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the recoveries.

These recoveries highlight the increased urgency in the search for two missing teenagers, one of whom is a 15-year-old girl who disappeared on May 30. It is believed she drowned after falling into the river under the Roosevelt Island Bridge and being swept away by the current. The second teenager, 17-year-old Brandon Pino from Port Richmond, Staten Island, is thought to have jumped from the Staten Island Ferry after leaving a note for his family expressing distress. His family is now advocating for increased awareness surrounding mental health issues, indicating that Brandon had previously joked about suicidal thoughts, leaving them uncertain of the seriousness of his sentiments.

As the search for these two missing youths continues, authorities have not confirmed whether the recently recovered body is connected to either case. The investigation remains active, and the community is urged to remain vigilant as responders work to resolve these troubling incidents.
