Bodycam footage reveals Connecticut police shooting woman who posed a threat to a man with a firearm.

Bodycam footage capturing the moment Connecticut State Police officers fatally shot an armed woman was released on Tuesday by state officials. The incident involved Amanda Williams, 39, who was reported to be threatening a man with a gun outside a residence in Bozrah on the evening of August 12, 2025.

According to a report by the Connecticut Inspector General, multiple troopers responded to a domestic disturbance call at approximately 7:30 PM in the western Norwich suburb. Concerned citizens had informed authorities that Williams was armed, necessitating a careful approach by law enforcement to assess the situation on Gifford Lane.

Upon arrival, troopers Brett Cook and Noah Blanchette, equipped with body-worn cameras, positioned themselves behind trees to provide cover while observing Williams. As they confronted her, they instructed her multiple times to drop her weapon; however, she refused these commands. Bodycam footage reveals Williams responding defiantly, expressing her unwillingness to comply with officers.

In an effort to de-escalate the situation, Trooper Zachary Cash deployed several non-lethal pepper ball rounds, which appeared to have no effect on Williams. During the standoff, she reportedly challenged the responding officers, further escalating the tense encounter. Following this attempt to subdue her, Blanchette discharged two rounds from his rifle, while Cook fired one shot from his handgun. Investigators have stated that it is currently unclear which officer’s bullet resulted in Williams’ death.

Upon reaching her location, officers discovered Williams clutching a .380-caliber Ruger handgun. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation, with officials working to piece together the unfolding events of that evening.

The release of this footage and the details surrounding the incident have sparked discussions regarding police response protocols and the challenges inherent in domestic disturbance situations. As the investigation continues, the focus will be on understanding the actions of both the police and Williams leading up to the shooting, as well as examining the broader implications for law enforcement practices in Connecticut and beyond.

As authorities seek to shed light on this tragic incident, the community remains in mourning for the loss of life, highlighting the urgent need for dialogue around gun control and mental health resources in domestic situations.
