Bones discovered while searching for Travis Decker, a father charged with the murder of his three daughters.

Authorities conducting the manhunt for Travis Decker have made significant developments this week, uncovering bones in the vicinity of a renewed search operation. Decker, a 32-year-old former soldier, is currently the focus of a nationwide search following the tragic deaths of his three young daughters—Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5—whose bodies were found earlier this year in a secluded campsite in Chelan County, Washington. The children were discovered with their hands zip-tied and plastic bags obscuring their faces, raising grave concerns regarding the nature of their deaths.

On June 2, the FBI’s Seattle office intensified efforts to locate Decker, deploying over 100 personnel from various agencies for an extensive grid search near the Rock Island Campground, close to Leavenworth, Washington. This search is part of an ongoing investigation into the homicides of Decker’s daughters, with the FBI noting that the mission aimed to locate Decker and uncover any signs related to the investigation.

During the search operation, authorities found several items that have since been sent for forensic examination to ascertain their relevance to the case. Amongst the findings, the Chelan County Sheriff, Mike Morrison, confirmed that bones were discovered; however, the nature of the remains—whether human or animal—has not yet been determined. As a precaution, these bones have been sent to the anthropology department at Central Washington University for analysis.

The search teams endured challenging conditions, with temperatures soaring to nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit, while traversing dense vegetation and difficult terrain. The FBI reported that more than 1 million square meters, equivalent to approximately 247 acres, were meticulously searched during this operation, which represents one of the most extensive efforts undertaken in the nearly three-month-long manhunt.

If further examinations confirm the remains to be human, investigators will proceed with additional testing to ascertain their identity and potential connection to the ongoing investigation. As the search continues, authorities remain dedicated to bringing closure to this harrowing case that has captivated and horrified communities across the nation.
