Boyfriend arrested for assault in case of missing pregnant teen Kylee Monteiro.

A 22-year-old man from Massachusetts has been apprehended in connection with the alleged assault of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, who has been missing for nearly two weeks. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced that Gregory Groom faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant individual, domestic assault and battery, and witness intimidation. These charges relate to incidents purportedly occurring the night before Monteiro’s disappearance.

While the connection between Groom and Monteiro has not been explicitly confirmed by law enforcement, family members assert that he is her boyfriend. Monteiro, who is reportedly 12 weeks pregnant, was last seen on August 7 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, a town located approximately 11 miles from Providence, Rhode Island.

According to police reports, the charges against Groom originate from a dispute that escalated into a violent confrontation. Relatives of Monteiro indicated that she expressed concerns for her safety following an argument with Groom. The local police received a tip regarding a wooded area near Groom’s residence, which prompted a search operation. His family reportedly owns 26 acres of largely undeveloped land adjacent to the property, providing ample area for investigation.

The search intensified with police utilizing dogs to comb through the woods and gathering evidence from Groom’s home. Video footage shows officers removing large evidence bags from the property, focusing particularly on a red shed located within the area.

As the search for Kylee Monteiro continues, her family is expressing deep concern for her well-being. Monteiro’s sister, Faith, conveyed a sense of fear and uncertainty, stating she feels something may be seriously wrong.

Gregory Groom is currently being held without bail and is set to appear for arraignment at Taunton District Court. The investigation into Monteiro’s disappearance remains active, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward. As the case develops, it highlights the broader issues of domestic violence and the urgent need to address the safety of vulnerable individuals in similar circumstances.
