Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to go to trial over French winery dispute.
Fresh from a protracted eight-year divorce, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are set to face off in a courtroom battle over ownership of Château Miraval, a winery located in the South of France. The legal conflict, which is expected to span around 15 days, centers on their shared investment in the estate they purchased for 4 million in 2008. This iconic property also served as the backdrop for their marriage ceremony in 2014, marking significant moments in their intertwined lives.
Court documents recently acquired reveal that while no specific start date for the trial has been established, it has become a focal point in the ongoing disputes between the former couple. Jolie, who is now 50, has expressed intentions to sell her stake in Château Miraval since the summer of 2021. However, this plan escalated tensions when Pitt, aged 61, filed a lawsuit against Jolie in 2022. He accused her of “vindictively” selling her shares to a Russian oligarch without his consent, a violation of their prior agreement which stipulated that any sale would require both parties’ approval.
The complexities of their legal disagreements reached new heights when Jolie alleged that Pitt was engaging in actions that could devalue the winery, describing his behavior as “looting.” Although the couple reached an agreement to settle out of court in July 2023, the situation has since intensified. A ruling from a Los Angeles judge allowed Pitt’s request to bring the case to trial, creating uncertainty about the timeline as reports suggest the courtroom proceedings may not begin until as late as 2026.
Despite enduring a highly publicized separation process, Pitt and Jolie were officially declared legally single in 2019. In the ensuing years, Pitt gained joint custody of their five minor children following a temporary ruling, although this arrangement has faced challenges, with only twins Knox and Vivienne, aged 16, remaining minors. The couple’s eldest children have taken steps to distance themselves from the Pitt surname; Shiloh, now 19, successfully removed “Pitt” from her name in May 2024, joining her siblings Maddox and Zahara in this pursuit.
In a recent appearance on the podcast “Armchair Expert” with Dax Shepard, Pitt discussed his journey into Alcoholics Anonymous, shedding light on the personal challenges he faced during the turbulent period following his divorce. The impending trial over Château Miraval underscores a continuing saga marked by both professional and personal complexities, as the world watches the outcomes of this high-profile dispute unfold.
