A 27-year-old man from the Bronx, recently released from prison, was tragically fatally stabbed in an incident that has left his community reeling. Tyquise Bell’s mother, Tesha Bell, expressed her heartbreak, disclosing that her son had voiced fears for his safety before his untimely death.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, around 4 p.m. near the corner of East 138th Street and Cypress Avenue in Mott Haven. Tyquise was returning home after a scheduled visit with his parole officer when he was confronted by an unknown assailant during an argument outside a corner deli. Authorities reported that the suspect, dressed in black, engaged Tyquise in a confrontation that escalated to violence, resulting in the young man’s fatal injuries.

Upon arrival, responding officers discovered Bell bleeding from a stab wound to the chest. Emergency Medical Services transported him to Lincoln Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The assailant fled the scene heading north on Cypress Avenue and remains at large as police continue their investigation.

Tesha Bell described her son as her only child and expressed the overwhelming void his passing has created in her life. She recounted their final interaction earlier that morning when she reminded him of his parole obligations, noting how he wished her to “be safe” as they parted ways.

Adjacent to his tragic story is Tyquise’s troubled past. He had been released from the Green Haven Correctional Facility on April 17, 2025, after serving a three-year sentence for weapons possession. Under parole supervision until 2027, he had recently voiced anxiety about his safety, a concern amplified by past trauma including the deaths of close family members and friends. His mother shared that he often expressed feelings of paranoia, worried that he might be killed following the tragic loss of a close friend to gun violence.

Tyquise’s struggles were compounded by past substance issues, including the use of K2, a synthetic cannabinoid. His mother observed that he had made efforts to avoid the drug after his release and aimed to reintegrate into society by focusing on his hobbies, such as basketball and video gaming.
