Bronx man sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting girlfriend’s daughter, who is in a wheelchair.

A 58-year-old Bronx resident has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of repeatedly sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s wheelchair-bound daughter. Juan Caceres was convicted of a series of crimes that began in 2011 and persisted for more than a decade, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office, which characterized him as a “disgusting predator.”

The abuse commenced shortly after Caceres moved into the family’s home in Port Washington, New York. The victim, who became dependent on a wheelchair following a medical procedure in 2013, faced an intensified period of exploitation. Prosecutors detailed that Caceres regularly entered her bedroom at night while she was immobilized and unable to resist his advances, where he engaged in sexual intercourse with her multiple times a week.

The criminal behavior escalated after the victim’s injury, and the abuse continued unabated until she reached adulthood. Following the culmination of the victim’s ordeal, Caceres surrendered to authorities in December 2024. His conviction on multiple counts of sexual abuse was announced in November 2024.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly condemned Caceres’ actions, emphasizing the profound impact of his crimes on the victim’s life. The district attorney specifically commended the survivor, now a young woman, for her remarkable courage in coming forward, stating that her bravery was instrumental in holding her abuser accountable.

The case underscores the vulnerability of individuals with disabilities and the critical need for vigilance against sexual abuse in such populations. It highlights the importance of support systems for victims, encouraging them to report such heinous crimes and seek justice.

The sentencing serves not only as a punitive measure for Caceres but also as a warning to potential offenders of the serious consequences of such acts. Community stakeholders continue to advocate for increased awareness and protections for those susceptible to exploitation, particularly those with disabilities. As society grapples with the issue of sexual violence, the need for robust legal frameworks and supportive environments becomes increasingly urgent.

This case also emphasizes the necessity of fostering open dialogues surrounding sexual assault to dismantle the stigma that often silences victims. Through continued advocacy and awareness efforts, there is potential for significant progress in protecting vulnerable populations from such predatory behaviors.
