His mother had been using ammonia in that lot, not as a weapon against the dogs, but to deter wildlife such as rats and raccoons.

After the confrontation, Michael Scott briefly went inside the house, believing the issue could be resolved peacefully. However, his mother continued the discussion alone and ultimately became a victim of unprovoked violence. He elaborated that he himself has faced various assaults during his 18-year career as a conductor with the MTA, but he regarded the incident involving his mother as particularly egregious and troubling.
