Brooklyn grandmother assaulted after requesting women to clean up after their dogs.

In a shocking incident that has raised concerns for community safety, a 75-year-old woman from Brooklyn was violently attacked in her front yard after she asked two women to clean up after their dogs. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. Monday at her residence on President Street near Troy Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood.

Authorities reported that Linda Scott was confronted by a woman whose two unleashed dogs were roaming nearby when the situation escalated rapidly. Surveillance footage obtained by Media News Source captures the confrontation, which begins with a verbal argument. Subsequently, another woman wearing a red sweatshirt approached and violently attacked the elderly woman. The video reveals that the assailant repeatedly punched Scott until she collapsed on her front lawn, at which point the attacker continued to kick and stomp on her face.

According to Scott’s son, Michael Scott, the confrontation began when his mother asked the dog owners to pick up after their pets. He expressed disbelief at the brutal nature of the attack. Medical reports indicate that Scott was later transported to Interfaith Medical Center, where physicians confirmed that she narrowly avoided a heart attack as a result of the assault. Having undergone two previous heart surgeries, the injuries could have had dire consequences had she been struck in the chest.

Michael Scott recounted that the conflict was sparked by the dogs defecating in a vacant lot adjacent to their home, a site that has been abandoned since a fire in 2011. He noted the presence of abandoned vehicles and homeless encampments in the area, contributing to a deteriorating neighborhood environment. His mother had been using ammonia in that lot, not as a weapon against the dogs, but to deter wildlife such as rats and raccoons.

After the confrontation, Michael Scott briefly went inside the house, believing the issue could be resolved peacefully. However, his mother continued the discussion alone and ultimately became a victim of unprovoked violence. He elaborated that he himself has faced various assaults during his 18-year career as a conductor with the MTA, but he regarded the incident involving his mother as particularly egregious and troubling.

This attack on an elderly resident underscores ongoing concerns about public safety and community dynamics in urban areas. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, calling for public assistance to identify the assailants responsible for this brutal act. The community remains vigilant as discussions surrounding safety, responsible pet ownership, and neighborliness gain momentum in the wake of this shocking event.
