Brooklyn man charged with dumping boyfriend’s body claimed to be police captain, prosecutors say.
A Brooklyn man, Christopher Moss, has been charged with concealing the body of his boyfriend, Darrell Montgomery, who was found decomposing in a trash bin outside their shared apartment. The discovery occurred around 9 a.m. on the morning of October 20, 2025, following complaints from neighbors about a foul odor emanating from the vicinity of their building on East 21st Street in Flatbush.
Prosecutors allege that Moss, 38, attempted to resist arrest by headbutting a police officer and claiming to be the officer’s superior. Moss reportedly shouted that he was the “captain of the police” while struggling with law enforcement officers attempting to take him into custody. During the scuffle, he reportedly attempted to seize the officer’s firearm, resulting in the officer suffering a split lip and scrapes on his hands.
Moss was apprehended two days later, approximately one mile from the scene of the incident, after a tip led police to his location. Following his arrest, he told authorities that he and Montgomery, who was 33 years old, had been in a relationship for four years and had a history of drug use, including methamphetamines. Moss is currently facing charges of assault against an officer and concealment of a corpse, the latter of which does not carry bail eligibility.
During his arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court, Moss appeared disheveled, wearing a stained black Polo shirt and jeans. Judge Linda Wilson ordered him held on a ,000 bail for the assault charge, while the charge of concealing a corpse does not allow for bail. Moss’s legal representative contended that his client was the victim in the altercation with the police and claimed he was assaulted during the arrest.
The investigation into Montgomery’s death is ongoing, with preliminary findings suggesting that he may have died from natural causes or a drug overdose, as there were no visible signs of trauma on his body. Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney Tziyonah Langsam stated that Moss informed detectives he found Montgomery deceased in their residence, observing that his body had become stiff. Surveillance footage shows Moss dragging the body from their apartment to the trash area.
Neighbors described Moss as towering over Montgomery and noted that they were frequently seen together. One resident reported seeing Moss outside the building the day before Montgomery’s body was uncovered, behaving erratically. Montgomery’s family is understandably devastated, emphasizing that he was loved and expressing disbelief at how his body was discarded.
The city medical examiner is currently conducting an autopsy to definitively determine the cause of death, although at this stage, foul play is not suspected. The case continues to unfold as additional details emerge.
