Despite the efforts of emergency services, he succumbed shortly after arriving at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn.

The driver of the box truck, identified as Carlos Almanzar Toribio, allegedly fled the scene after attempting to remove debris from his vehicle. Charges have been filed against him for leaving the scene of a fatal accident, operating an unregistered vehicle, and driving without a license plate, according to police reports.

During the funeral, family members reflected on the lasting impact Pena had on their lives. His cousin Jacqueline Burgos described him as someone who inspired those around him to live fully and unapologetically. This sentiment resonated deeply, especially considering Pena’s resilience: he had previously recovered from a severe motorcycle accident nearly eight years earlier that required intense rehabilitation.
