Bucks County farm owner captured in Belize after fleeing to avoid animal cruelty charges.

A Bucks County woman faces multiple charges of animal neglect and cruelty following her extradition from Belize, where she had fled last year. Abigail Tuttle O’Keeffe, the former owner of Narrow Way Farm in Newtown, was returned to the United States last week, as announced by the U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force. This extradition comes after O’Keeffe was initially arrested in Belize in April for firearm possession, which delayed her return pending the resolution of that case.

Upon her return, O’Keeffe is confronted with nearly 150 counts of animal-related offenses, including two felony charges for aggravated cruelty to animals, 21 misdemeanor counts of animal neglect, and over 100 summary offense counts of animal neglect. Local humane officers have described her case as one of the most egregious instances of animal abuse in the county’s history.

The allegations against O’Keeffe first emerged in August of the previous year when law enforcement and animal welfare workers executed a search warrant at Narrow Way Farm. This led to the rescue of over 100 animals, including pigs, goats, and sheep, many of whom were afflicted with infections, parasites, and other serious medical issues. Reports indicate that some animals were discovered dead, while others required euthanasia due to severe neglect and poor living conditions.

Former volunteers at the farm reported a chaotic management style, noting O’Keeffe’s lack of farming experience. Allegations surfaced that animal staff were advised to provide minimal care, using over-the-counter treatments instead of seeking professional veterinary assistance. Investigation findings suggest that the animals were often fed a low-nutrition diet, exacerbating their poor health.

The investigations culminated in charges being filed against O’Keeffe in January. However, uncertainty arose regarding her location, as she indicated on social media in July that she had relocated to Belize and did not intend to return. After her arrest in Belize for unrelated charges, U.S. Marshals were notified and cooperated with Bucks County authorities to facilitate her extradition.

Currently, O’Keeffe is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility on a 0,000 bail. A pretrial hearing is expected in early October. This case has garnered significant attention, reflecting ongoing concerns regarding animal welfare and the enforcement of cruelty laws in the region. Authorities emphasize the collaborative effort required in managing the case and ensuring justice for the animals involved.
