Carjacking suspect injures several individuals, including a police officer accidentally shot during the incident, according to the district attorney.

In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Queens, New York, a 28-year-old repeat offender, Kevin Dubuisson, orchestrated a series of violent events that resulted in multiple injuries and the shooting of an NYPD officer due to friendly fire. The confrontation began with a failed carjacking and escalated dramatically as Dubuisson attempted to evade arrest.

Dubuisson has been charged with multiple counts, including robbery, assault, and menacing, following a violent spree that left several individuals injured. Among the victims is an 87-year-old woman who was seriously harmed when Dubuisson backed his stolen vehicle into her as she was exiting another car with her daughter. Dubuisson’s violent actions on Friday morning disrupted what would have been a peaceful day for the residents of the area, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. Katz stated that Dubuisson’s behavior directly led to the hospitalization of Detective Corey Fisher, who was wounded by gunfire during the encounter with police.

According to court documents, Dubuisson’s crime spree began at a Mobil gas station on Parsons Boulevard, where he unsuccessfully attempted to steal an idling white Hyundai Santa Fe belonging to an employee. The employee was able to fend off the suspect. Shortly thereafter, Dubuisson threatened a woman on the street, pantomiming a firearm while unleashing threats. He then resorted to hijacking a black Toyota Highlander from an Uber driver, demanding the keys while allegedly brandishing a metal hook.

After the driver escaped, Dubuisson pursued him and managed to steal the vehicle. His reckless driving ensued, culminating in the collision with the car occupied by the elderly woman and her daughter. The chaotic scene attracted the attention of law enforcement, which led to an armed confrontation. Multiple officers responded to the situation, and in the ensuing chaos, one officer was mistakenly struck by gunfire.

If found guilty of the charges against him, Dubuisson could face a maximum sentence of 32 years in prison. The swift action by law enforcement prevented further tragedy in what could have escalated into an even graver situation. The case highlights the ongoing challenges of violent crime in urban areas and the complexities faced by police in such high-stakes scenarios. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities gather evidence and testimonies related to this alarming series of events.
