A tragic incident unfolded last week when a man identified as Patrick Joseph White, aged 30, opened fire at the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. According to authorities, White’s motive was to express his profound dissatisfaction with COVID-19 vaccines. Details emerged during a press conference held on Tuesday by Chris Hosey, Director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

White gained access to five firearms, which he reportedly extracted from a safe belonging to his father. The shooting spree resulted in the death of a police officer, David Rose, who was one of the first responders. Investigators revealed that during the attack, White discharged nearly 500 rounds, with more than 180 striking various CDC buildings. His rampage culminated in a self-inflicted gunshot wound, which ultimately led to his death in a nearby structure.

Preliminary reports from the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office indicated that White did not suffer any injuries from return fire by police officers, and the investigation is ongoing, with forensic testing of the recovered firearms set to be conducted by the GBI Crime Lab.

Authorities noted the type of firearms used was predominantly a long gun rifle, along with a shotgun and possibly a handgun. In the aftermath of this devastating event, documents found at White’s residence revealed his discontent with COVID-19 vaccinations. FBI Special Agent Paul Brown emphasized that, although federal authorities have not observed an increase in threats related to vaccine misinformation and the CDC’s work, they remain vigilant and take any rhetoric that could incite violence seriously. Brown assured that the agency would respond promptly if any new threats arise.

In the wake of this incident, a makeshift memorial was established for Officer David Rose, reflecting the community’s grief and support for his family.
