Cherry Hill High School East Principal Daniel Finkle announces resignation.
Cherry Hill High School East Principal Daniel Finkle is set to resign, effective November 10, as confirmed by a recent email sent to families within the district. His resignation comes in the wake of serious allegations made against him by a former assistant principal, who has accused Finkle of engaging in discriminatory practices and failing to adhere to safety protocols in a lawsuit filed earlier this week.
In the email, Finkle announced that he will assume the role of “educational leader” at another high school in New Jersey. The resignation was formally submitted to Superintendent Kwame Morton on Tuesday morning and subsequently approved by the school board during their evening meeting.
In his communication to the Cherry Hill community, Finkle expressed profound gratitude for his tenure at East High School, which began in August 2024. He highlighted the warmth and support he received from faculty and families, stating that it empowered him to lead effectively and implement changes aimed at prioritizing student welfare.
The email was notably devoid of information regarding the specific high school where Finkle will continue his career or details about his successor at Cherry Hill High School East. Finkle came to Cherry Hill following a 12-year career at Delran High School in Burlington County, where he held various educational and administrative positions in both private and public institutions across New Jersey.
Finkle succeeded Dennis Perry, who retired after serving as principal since 2016. When hired in May 2024, Finkle’s salary was set at 1,765.
Superintendent Morton acknowledged Finkle’s contributions to the school district, expressing appreciation for his work in the Cherry Hill High School East community and wishing him well in his future endeavors.
The Cherry Hill school district has been embroiled in controversy in recent months, particularly following the dismissal of former assistant principal David Francis-Maurer. This incident sparked student protests and heated discussions at school board meetings, further complicating the district’s atmosphere. Francis-Maurer has since filed a lawsuit against the district, claiming he was subjected to discriminatory treatment and retaliation after reporting Finkle’s alleged misconduct regarding safety protocols and discrimination.
As the Cherry Hill community awaits further developments, the implications of these leadership changes and ongoing legal disputes remain to be seen. The school district’s approach to these serious allegations will be scrutinized as it navigates through this challenging period.
