Chester police shot a man after he allegedly fired at them, according to the Delco District Attorney’s Office.
In a significant incident involving law enforcement, a man was shot by Chester police officers late Wednesday evening after allegedly firing a gun in their direction. The events unfolded around 11:35 p.m. on the 100 block of West 21st Street, as confirmed by the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office.
The situation began when officers were answering an unrelated service call nearby. Upon hearing multiple gunshots, the officers moved toward the source of the sound. According to police reports, while approaching the area of the gunfire, an unidentified man directed shots at the officers. In response, several officers returned fire, injuring the man at the scene. Thankfully, no other individuals were harmed during the exchange, as reported by Katrina Blackwell, the interim commissioner of the Chester Police Department.
The injured suspect was transported to Christiana Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer indicated that the man would face criminal charges in connection to the incident. Stollsteimer also stated that the officers acted within their rights by returning fire when shot at, affirming their actions were justified under the circumstances.
