Cindy Lauper and Chubby Checker Among 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled its list of inductees for 2025, highlighting a diverse array of artists who have made significant contributions to the music industry. Among the honorees are iconic figures such as Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, and the prominent 1970s supergroup Bad Company. This announcement was made during a live segment on “American Idol” hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

In addition to these renowned performers, the lineup includes influential artists like Outkast, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes. The Hall also recognizes trailblazers in the industry: Salt-N-Pepa, pioneers of hip-hop, along with Warren Zevon, who will receive the Musical Influence Award. This award honors those whose creative endeavors have significantly impacted the evolution of rock and roll and broader cultural music trends.

Notably, Checker, Cocker, Bad Company, and Outkast are being honored for the first time, while Soundgarden, having received two previous nominations, is being inducted this year. Lauper and The White Stripes achieved induction on their second nomination, emphasizing the Hall’s commitment to recognizing artists whose musical contributions have demonstrated originality, impact, and influence on the genre.

The Hall of Fame will also bestow posthumous Musical Excellence Awards on celebrated figures such as pianist Nicky Hopkins, record producer Thom Bell, and bassist Carole Kaye. These awards highlight the contributions of individuals whose work has often gone unrecognized despite their significant influence on music.

Lenny Waronker, a former head of Warner Bros. Records, will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which recognizes industry professionals who have made lasting contributions to music. Waronker is credited with being instrumental in signing significant artists, including Prince and R.E.M., while helping to shape the soundscape of modern music through his artist-first philosophy.

The induction ceremony is set to take place on November 8 in Los Angeles, promising to be a notable event in the music calendar. This year’s selections reflect a broad spectrum of genres and eras, underscoring the changing landscape of rock and roll while paying tribute to the artists whose legacies have influenced generations.
