A police officer from Connecticut has resigned following multiple arrests, including a domestic violence incident, according to recent reports from local authorities. Gregory Zach, 42, a veteran officer with two decades of service in the Stamford Police Department, formally stepped down from his position on July 25. This resignation was announced one day after he faced arrest for domestic violence charges, during which he was detained by fellow officers.

The Stamford Police Department has indicated that it will pursue the decertification of Zach as a law enforcement officer. This decision underscores the seriousness with which the department and city officials are treating the allegations against him.

Zach’s troubling history of behavior is marked by escalating incidents of violence and threats, beginning with his relationship with a woman, which he entered into in 2024. According to statements made to investigators, the relationship soured as Zach struggled with jealousy and control over the woman’s interactions with other men. These tensions reportedly culminated in a series of alarming incidents.

In October 2024, Zach allegedly threatened both the woman and another man with death, which ignited concerns about his stability and conduct. Subsequently, in February 2025, during a confrontation, he reportedly spat in the woman’s face while she was on a phone call.

The most severe allegations occurred in June 2025, during an incident where Zach is accused of forcefully entering the woman’s residence. Within the course of this incident, he allegedly slapped her, threw her onto a bed, and choked her to the point of restricting her breathing. Notably, this violent act took place while he was on duty and in uniform, raising additional scrutiny regarding his actions as a police officer.

Adding to his legal troubles, Zach faced a second arrest in August 2025 after ammunition was found in his bag at New Haven airport. As a result of an ongoing protective order stemming from the previous domestic violence allegations, he was prohibited from possessing any ammunition.

This sequence of events has not only severed Zach’s career within law enforcement but also raised broader questions about the oversight and accountability mechanisms in place for police officers facing serious allegations of misconduct.
