Daily Show correspondent Josh Johnson officially becomes part of the anchor rotation.

Comedian Josh Johnson is set to step into the spotlight this week as he takes his turn at the anchor desk for the iconic late-night program “The Daily Show.” This shift comes as the series continues to evolve its format, having implemented a rotation of hosts. Johnson, who has been a writer for “The Daily Show” since 2017, has gradually become a prominent onscreen figure over the past year, allowing him to bring a unique perspective to the much-admired series.

“The Daily Show,” which has been a launching pad for numerous comedic careers including those of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Steve Carell, Samantha Bee, and Trevor Noah, is now embracing a refreshed format following Noah’s departure from the hosting role in 2022. Notably, Jon Stewart returned in 2024, taking on the role of executive producer while hosting the show once a week on Mondays.

Johnson will debut as host for the first time on Tuesday, joining a talented lineup of correspondents who have previously rotated through the hosting duties, including Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic. The new structure has allowed the show to explore diverse comedic styles while maintaining its commitment to addressing current events with satire and humor.

In his inaugural week, Johnson is set to welcome a collection of exciting guests. Scheduled appearances include Rob Franklin, author of “Great Black Hope,” rapper Samara Cyn, and Christopher McDonald, known for his role in “Happy Gilmore 2.” Such a dynamic guest roster promises a blend of thought-provoking discussions and entertaining segments.

Recognized by WIRED magazine as “the funniest guy on the internet,” Johnson continues to establish himself as a leading figure in comedy. Beyond his work on “The Daily Show,” he also gained experience as a writer and performer on “The Tonight Show,” marking his late-night debut in 2017. At 39 years old, he is currently on tour across the United States with his stand-up routine in “The Flowers Tour,” showcasing his versatility in the comedy landscape.

With Johnson’s ascent as a host, “The Daily Show” appears poised to retain its relevance in the ever-changing late-night landscape while continuing its legacy of humor and incisive commentary on the daily news cycle. As audiences tune in, they can expect fresh insights and laughter from one of the emerging talents in comedy.
