Daxon urges Breans to raise questions in light of recent developments.

A potential development is on the horizon for the Brea community, as a Costco Warehouse is proposed for the site currently occupied by Beckman-Coulter, located at the intersection of Kraemer Boulevard and Birch Street. As Beckman-Coulter prepares for its departure in approximately three years, local residents are facing a significant transformation in their neighborhood. Concerns and inquiries from the community regarding this development are being invited at a Notice of Preparation (NOP) Scoping Meeting Open House scheduled for tonight, October 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brea Civic Center in Community Rooms A-B.

The purpose of the NOP is to gather community input regarding the scope and content of the forthcoming Environmental Impact Report (EIR), a critical assessment required for the proposed warehouse project. During the open house, attendees will have the opportunity to view displays showcasing posters and drawings related to the proposed development. Brea city planning staff and consultants will be present to listen to community concerns and answer any questions that may arise.

According to city officials, over 170 electronic notices were dispatched, with an additional 80 letters mailed to properties within 500 feet of the site to ensure that local stakeholders are informed. For those unable to attend the open house, public comments will be accepted during the NOP period, which lasts for 30 days and will conclude at 5:30 p.m. on November 5. Submissions can be made via email at cristaln@cityofbrea.gov or by mail to the Brea Planning Division at 1 Civic Center Circle, Brea, CA 92821.

It is important to note that the proposed Costco project must navigate several regulatory hurdles before it can be presented for a vote by the Planning Commission. Should any appeals arise, the matter may eventually reach the City Council for further consideration.

In addition to the warehouse development discussion, Brea residents are also preparing for the upcoming city council election, where three out of five candidates will be elected or re-elected. A candidates’ forum is taking place this Thursday at 6 p.m., organized by the North Orange County League of Women Voters. Residents are encouraged to attend both the scoping meeting and the forum, which will be held at the Brea City Council Chambers.

Broadcasted live on City Cable Channel 3, the council candidates forum will also be available for streaming on the city’s website. Attendees will have an opportunity to submit questions, which will be moderated to ensure a fair and orderly discussion among all candidates. Following the forum, there will be a reception allowing residents to interact directly with the candidates.

For additional insights, the Brea Chamber of Commerce will host its own candidates’ forum on October 29. This forum will allow for a range of questions and discussions in an engaging environment. Registration is required for attendance due to space constraints, and interested parties can visit the Chamber’s website for details.

As the election approaches and the future of local development unfolds, community engagement remains essential for shaping Brea’s growth trajectory.
