Delaware County Foundation to pay million for Crozer patient records expenses.
The Foundation for Delaware County has reached a significant agreement to allocate million towards the preservation and distribution of medical records for thousands of former patients of Crozer Health, which is now under the ownership of the bankrupt Prospect Medical Holdings. The agreement, poised for court approval, aims to benefit up to 43,000 individuals seeking access to their medical information from what was once Delaware County’s largest healthcare system.
Previously, a records management company contracted by Prospect began imposing fees for the retrieval of medical records, charging for electronic copies and for records provided on USB devices. This practice has raised concerns among local officials, who argue that such fees pose a considerable financial burden, particularly for low-income residents and the elderly in the Chester area.
The closure of Crozer-Chester Medical Center in May marked a significant loss for many individuals who had relied on the facility for healthcare services for generations. Prospect Medical Holdings has also shuttered several other hospitals in the region, including Taylor Hospital and Springfield Hospital, exacerbating the healthcare challenges faced by Delaware County residents.
As part of the agreement, the Foundation will disburse 0,000 to Iron Mountain Information Management and .5 million to Morgan Records Management within five days following the legal approval of the settlement. This funding is critical to ensure that former patients can obtain their medical records without incurring additional costs.
For those interested in accessing their medical records, detailed information is available on the Morgan Records Management website. This initiative underscores the Foundation’s commitment to the health and well-being of Delaware County’s residents, a mission it has been dedicated to since it was established following the 2016 sale of the nonprofit Crozer Keystone Health System for million.
The Foundation has played a vital role amid the bankruptcy proceedings initiated in January, particularly as efforts were made to keep local hospitals operational while alternative management was sought. To that end, the Foundation previously committed million to support day-to-day operations at the hospitals, ensuring staff compensation and other essential expenses were met.
In addition to facilitating access to patient records, the proposed agreement also includes the resolution of all ongoing litigation between the Foundation and Prospect, allowing both parties to move forward collaboratively in addressing the healthcare needs of the community. This landmark decision reflects the ongoing efforts to rebuild and support healthcare access in Delaware County as it navigates the complexities of recent hospital closures.
