A federal judge in Manhattan has taken a definitive stance regarding the ongoing sex trafficking trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs. On Friday, Judge Arun Subramanian rejected motions from the hip-hop mogul to dismiss certain charges and exclude evidence obtained from search warrants shortly before the opening statements in the high-profile case.

In a ruling that holds significant implications for Combs’s defense, Judge Subramanian dismissed attempts to eliminate two charges from the indictment that allege Combs engaged in the transportation of two individuals for the purposes of prostitution. In his arguments, Combs purported that the prosecution was a product of selective bias, specifically targeting him as a notable Black figure in the entertainment industry. However, the judge clarified that Combs had not provided sufficient evidence to support his claims of discriminatory intent or effect. Subramanian asserted that the essential factors for a valid claim had not been met, reinforcing that the gravity of the allegations against Combs is what warrants legal scrutiny.

Additionally, in a heavily redacted decision, the judge denied requests to suppress evidence obtained from four search warrants issued between January and March 2024. This included data from Combs’s iCloud accounts and physical searches of his residences in Los Angeles and Miami. This ruling permits the jury to be informed about disturbing findings, including more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil, which authorities suggest were intended for illicit sexual activities. Combs has consistently denied these allegations.

The legal documents also referenced the retrieval of modified AR-15 assault weapons, equipped with a drum magazine that has the capacity of holding 59 rounds, imposing further seriousness to the charges against him.

Jury selection for the trial progressed this week, with numerous prospective jurors surveyed for a panel that comprises 12 jurors and six alternates. Opening statements are anticipated to commence on Monday afternoon, following the conclusion of the selection process.

Combs, aged 56, is facing a multitude of serious charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and the transportation of victims for prostitution. If convicted, he could potentially face decades in prison. Since his arrest in September 2024, Combs has been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting the proceedings that could significantly impact his future.
