DoorDash driver charged with sexually assaulting University of Connecticut student.

A recent incident at the University of Connecticut’s Storrs campus has raised serious concerns about safety and security within the community. On Saturday, a delivery driver associated with DoorDash allegedly attempted to sexually assault an individual in the parking lot of the Hilltop Apartments shortly after 5:45 PM.

According to local law enforcement, the suspect, described as a man in his thirties, reportedly lured the victim into his vehicle while making a delivery. The assault began almost immediately after the victim entered the car. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape and reach safety, while the suspect fled the scene in a gold 1998 Toyota Camry.

University officials confirmed that a suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing. DoorDash has expressed its commitment to cooperation with law enforcement, emphasizing that the safety of its users is a top priority. In a statement, the company noted that it is investigating the incident and has also suspended the suspect’s access to the delivery platform amidst these troubling allegations. They reassured customers that all delivery drivers are required to undergo identity verification and criminal background checks before being permitted to accept delivery requests.

The university has previously addressed safety concerns, as indicated in annual reports from their police department. In a safety report published in fall 2024, the department revealed that eight sexual assault cases had been reported on campus in 2023, consistent with the number of reports in the previous year. The persistence of such incidents has alarmed many students and local residents, prompting discussions on community safety and preventative measures.

Sophomore Evan Czaja voiced his disbelief regarding the incident, remarking on the tight-knit nature of the University of Connecticut community and expressing concern over the occurrence of such violence on campus. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities that can exist even in seemingly secure environments, highlighting the need for ongoing conversations about security, support for victims, and community vigilance.

As the investigation continues, the response from both the university and DoorDash will likely be closely monitored by students, faculty, and community members alike. The emphasis on safety protocol and community support remains critical in the aftermath of such distressing events.
