Driver Arrested Following Fatal I-75 Crash in Hillsborough, According to Law Enforcement
A 23-year-old man from Kentucky has been arrested by law enforcement officials following a fatal crash on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County on Tuesday evening. The incident raises serious concerns regarding road safety and the consequences of leaving the scene of an accident.
The suspect, identified as Noah Alexander Riley from Campbellsville, Kentucky, has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when Riley was operating a Ford F-350 pickup truck, towing a cattle trailer, and drifted onto the shoulder of the highway.
At the same time, a 25-year-old man from Gainesville was experiencing mechanical issues with his tractor-trailer, which had become disabled north of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. His situation prompted the assistance of his brother, a 27-year-old resident of Ocala, who had parked his Hyundai Sonata in close proximity to the disabled truck.
As Riley’s vehicle veered onto the shoulder, it struck the disabled trailer and collided with the Ocala man who was attempting to help his brother. Tragically, the 27-year-old man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not confirmed whether the Gainesville driver sustained any injuries during the incident.
Subsequent to the crash, Riley fled the scene and drove to a nearby gas station located at the intersection of State Road 56 and Cypress Ridge Boulevard. It was there that troopers discovered him allegedly changing a tire. Following the investigation, Riley was taken into custody and transported to a Hillsborough County jail. However, details regarding his arrest affidavit and booking information remain unclear as of this report.
The incident underscores the importance of remaining at the scene of an accident and emphasizes the potential tragic outcomes of failing to do so.
