Eleven NYPD vehicles vandalized at new precinct station in Queens.
In a noteworthy incident in Queens, eleven vehicles belonging to the New York Police Department (NYPD) were vandalized at a recently established precinct. Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 11:19 p.m. on Monday at the 116th Precinct stationhouse located near North Conduit Avenue and 244th Street in Rosedale.
The vehicles that were damaged included both marked and unmarked NYPD cars. At the time of the vandalism, no personnel were inside any of the affected vehicles, mitigating the potential for personal injury. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may have employed rocks or similar objects to break the windows of the vehicles parked outside the precinct.
In light of this incident, police have not yet made any arrests. However, they are actively pursuing leads to identify the individual responsible for the vandalism. The attack, occurring at a police station, raises concerns about safety and security within the community, particularly given that the vehicles vandalized were a visible representation of law enforcement in the area.
The 116th Precinct, which officially opened in December 2024, represents a significant investment in local law enforcement infrastructure, having cost approximately 5 million to construct. This facility was also highlighted as the first new designated NYPD stationhouse to be built in over a decade. Covering areas including Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Brookville, and Laurelton, the precinct was established to better serve communities that were previously under the jurisdiction of the 105th and 113th precincts.
Officials, including Mayor Eric Adams, have underscored the importance of the new precinct in enhancing police presence and community engagement. The establishment of this stationhouse signifies a revitalization effort to strengthen public safety and improve relationships between law enforcement and local residents.
As investigations continue into this vandalism case, the NYPD encourages anyone with information to come forward to assist in the resolution of this incident. Community cooperation is viewed as essential in maintaining safety and addressing criminal activities effectively.
