Escaped prisoner from work release captured at New Jersey casino.
In a recent incident that has drawn attention to the challenges of monitoring inmates participating in work-release programs, Jeremy Ott was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service on the casino floor of Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City. Ott, who escaped from his work-release assignment in Warrington, Pennsylvania, on September 27, 2025, evaded capture for several weeks before law enforcement could finally locate him.
Following his disappearance, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office took swift action, issuing an arrest warrant just days after he left his work site. Despite an extensive search, Ott successfully eluded authorities until his arrest on Wednesday. The U.S. Marshals Service provided images that depicted the moment Ott was taken into custody. He was seen being handcuffed on the casino’s polka-dot floor and subsequently escorted through rows of vibrant slot machines.
Prior to this incident, Jeremy Ott had a history of criminal activity. He had previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from a police chase that occurred in Doylestown on July 19, 2024. During that incident, law enforcement attempted to stop Ott for speeding in a 25 mph zone, an area that was heavily populated with pedestrians. At that time, he was driving with a suspended license, associated with a prior DUI conviction.
Ott’s attempts to evade capture during the police chase led to him fleeing his vehicle into a nearby wooded area. His eventual arrest on August 5, 2024, again took place in Atlantic City, where he faced several charges, including felony fleeing police, along with three misdemeanors: recklessly endangering others, driving without an ignition interlock device, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. In light of his criminal behavior, he received a prison sentence ranging from one to two years, a term he was serving at the time of his recent escape.
The episode raises important questions about the effectiveness of work-release programs and the measures in place to ensure the accountability of inmates granted such privileges. As authorities continue to review and assess the circumstances surrounding Ott’s escape and capture, discussions regarding the management of such programs are likely to increase in prominence.
