Former lawyer admits guilt in police interference related to Jennifer Farber Dulos case.

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation surrounding the disappearance of Jennifer Farber Dulos, Kent Mawhinney, a former attorney for her estranged husband Fotis Dulos, has pleaded guilty to interfering with law enforcement. This plea, made on a Friday, allows Mawhinney to circumvent the more serious charge of conspiracy to commit murder, which was initially brought against him.

As part of the plea agreement, the court sentenced Mawhinney to serve 11 months in prison. However, he has since been released, having already completed much of his sentence prior to the plea deal. Mawhinney, who has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, was a friend of Fotis Dulos, who was embroiled in a contentious divorce at the time of his wife’s disappearance.

Jennifer Farber Dulos, a 50-year-old mother of five, was last seen on May 24, 2019, after dropping her children off at school. Reports indicate that Fotis Dulos is suspected of having murdered her in their New Canaan home and disposing of her body. Despite ongoing investigations, Dulos consistently proclaimed his innocence before he died by suicide in January 2020, just days after being charged with his wife’s murder.

During the investigation, law enforcement uncovered potential evidence linking Mawhinney to the case, including his presence on the day of Farber Dulos’ disappearance. Although Mawhinney initially denied meeting with Fotis Dulos that day, conflicting phone records prompted him to change his narrative, attributing his memory lapse to a concussion he sustained from a fall.

Additionally, Mawhinney was linked to a suspicious grave site discovered at the Windsor Rod & Gun Club, an area where he was known to frequent. This site was described to be approximately six feet long and four feet deep, with nearby evidence suggesting preparations for a burial. Despite thorough searches, no human remains were ever recovered.

Farber Dulos was declared legally dead in January 2023, though her body has yet to be found. In comments made outside the courthouse post-plea, Mawhinney expressed a lack of knowledge regarding Farber Dulos’ fate, suggesting that he is unaware of any information that might help provide closure to her family.

Mawhinney’s attorney reiterated his client’s non-involvement in Farber Dulos’ death, emphasizing that the prosecution recognized insufficient evidence to uphold the more serious conspiracy charges. Mawhinney’s legal practice has been suspended since January 2020, following allegations of his involvement in the case.

Recently, Fotis Dulos’ former girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, was convicted for her role in concealing the circumstances surrounding Farber Dulos’ disappearance, receiving a sentence of more than 14 years in prison.

The developments in this high-profile case continue to draw public attention as the search for justice for Jennifer Farber Dulos persists.
