Former Platters singer Sandra Hall located in Brooklyn after being reported missing for several days.
A former member of the iconic vocal group The Platters has been located at a New York City hospital, five days after her initial disappearance. Sandra Hall, age 80, was last seen on Friday afternoon at the Atlantic Terminal Mall in Brooklyn.
Hall, who suffers from dementia, reportedly separated from her caregiver and inadvertently slipped through a turnstile at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center subway station. She subsequently boarded an uptown 2 train, which led to her family expressing grave concern regarding her safety. In a statement prior to Hall’s discovery, her daughter, Kahtia DaSilva, conveyed her worries about her mother’s wellbeing, adding that the family was uncertain about Hall’s sleeping arrangements and meals during the duration of her absence.
The New York City Police Department actively sought the public’s help in locating the missing singer. Fortunately, on Wednesday, DaSilva announced that her mother had been found at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, situated in close proximity to where she was reported missing. Emergency personnel discovered Hall, and according to DaSilva, she is doing well and is in a stable condition.
The Platters, formed in the early 1950s by the late bass singer Herb Reed, achieved remarkable success in the music industry during the 1950s and 1960s, producing over a dozen hits that reached the U.S. Top 10 charts. Among their most notable songs are “Only You (And You Alone)” and the R&B-pop classic “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.” Hall joined the group in 1965, performing under the stage name Sandra Dawn for approximately four years, contributing to the ensemble’s lasting legacy.
The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by those living with dementia and the importance of vigilance when caring for individuals with such conditions. Hall’s family is relieved by her safe return, and the community is grateful for the support displayed in the search for her. A spokesperson for The Platters had not provided a comment regarding Hall’s situation by the time of this report.
As the news unfolds, further updates from the family are anticipated, shedding light on Hall’s health and any upcoming plans for her care.
