Former Turnstile guitarist arrested for attempted murder of lead singer’s father.

Brady Ebert, the former guitarist of the Grammy Award-winning band Turnstile, has been arrested in connection with a serious incident involving an alleged attempt to kill the father of fellow band member Brendan Yates. Law enforcement officials in Maryland announced on Thursday that Ebert, 33, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder for reportedly running down 78-year-old William Yates with his vehicle.

The altercation reportedly took place after Ebert faced off with William Yates, who is also the father of the band’s vocalist. Authorities indicated that the incident stemmed from a dispute ignited when Ebert honked his horn and shouted obscenities at William Yates’ daughter and son-in-law, who were present in the driveway of their residence.

According to police reports, the confrontation escalated when William Yates threw a rock at Ebert’s vehicle, which allegedly prompted Ebert to attempt to strike the elderly man. After reversing his 2001 Buick, Ebert struck William Yates before fleeing the scene. Subsequent investigation led police to recover the vehicle, which bore signs of front-end damage.

As a result of the incident, William Yates sustained serious injuries, including a broken leg, and required surgery. The Montgomery County Department of Police confirmed that he was recovering in the hospital following the assault. Detectives learned during their hospital visit with Yates that the assailant had been previously associated with his son in the musical group.

Brady Ebert co-founded Turnstile in 2010, alongside Brendan Yates and other bandmates. However, in 2022, the group announced its decision to part ways with Ebert. The separation was attributed to a “consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community.” Following the unrest, the band achieved significant recognition and went on to win two Grammy Awards in February 2023, which they secured without Ebert.

In a follow-up statement, Turnstile expressed that they initially supported Ebert’s recovery efforts but ultimately severed ties after a breakdown in communication and escalating threats of violence. The band’s representatives indicated that this situation prompted the difficult decision to distance themselves from Ebert, emphasizing a commitment to safety and well-being.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this troubling incident, which has sent ripples through both the local community and the music scene. Ebert remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
