Gary Busey pleads guilty to groping a woman at a New Jersey horror movie convention.

Actor Gary Busey has entered a guilty plea regarding a sex crime charge stemming from an incident that occurred during a horror movie convention in New Jersey in 2022. The 81-year-old Busey pleaded guilty to a single count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact at the Monster-Mania Convention held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Cherry Hill on August 13, 2022. His admission involved an act of intentionally inappropriate touching of a woman at the event.

During a recent court appearance conducted through Zoom, Busey acknowledged the nature of his actions, stating unequivocally that they were not accidental. Initially, he faced multiple charges, including two counts of criminal sexual contact, one count of attempted criminal sexual contact, and one count of harassment. Reports indicate that the actor was accused of inappropriately groping at least three women during photo opportunities and attempting to remove the bra of one individual at the convention.

In a plea agreement that led to Busey’s guilty plea, three of the original charges were dropped. The remaining count of criminal sexual contact could result in a sentencing ranging from one to five years of probation, in addition to potential fines, with a sentencing date set for September 18.

Prior to the plea, Busey’s defense team attempted to have the indictment dismissed. They argued that the police investigation failed to sufficiently question certain witnesses. However, this motion was rejected by the court, affirming that witness testimonies had been properly collected and presented to the grand jury.

Busey has had a long career in the film industry, appearing in over 150 films since his breakthrough role in the 1978 biopic “The Buddy Holly Story,” for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He is also known for his roles in popular action films such as “Lethal Weapon,” “Point Break,” and “Under Siege.” Additionally, Busey gained attention through various reality television shows, including “The Surreal Life” and “I’m With Busey.”

The actor’s life has been marked by a significant event in 1988 when he sustained a fractured skull in a near-fatal motorcycle accident, which resulted in permanent brain damage. As the legal proceedings continue, Busey’s career and public image face scrutiny amidst the unfolding developments in this case.
