A significant emergency response unfolded in Garden Grove on Thursday afternoon following a hazardous materials incident involving a 34,000-gallon tank containing methyl methacrylate, a chemical commonly utilized in the plastics manufacturing sector. The incident occurred in the 12100 block of Western Avenue, according to the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), which reported on the details via X. Citing safety concerns, the OCFA mandated the evacuation of areas located north of Garden Grove Boulevard, east of Monarch Street, south of Orangewood, and west of Beach Boulevard. These precautions were put in place to ensure the safety of the public as crews worked to contain the situation.

In response to the release of vapors, a reunification center was established at Rancho Alamitos High School to support those impacted by the evacuations.
