Hundreds of sex toys scattered during anti-ICE protest in downtown Los Angeles.

In a striking display of protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), hundreds of individuals gathered outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon, resulting in several arrests after police declared the assembly unlawful. The demonstration, which began around noon, was organized to express discontent with the approaches employed by ICE and involved an unconventional method of protest, as attendees threw an array of colorful sex toys into the streets.

Los Angeles Police Department Lieutenant Bruce Cross reported that the protest attracted between 200 and 300 participants. Eyewitnesses and social media footage revealed protesters affixing sexually explicit toys to fences, launching them at law enforcement vehicles, and brandishing provocative signs as means of conveying their message. This demonstration, characterized by its unusual choice of items, was advertised under the slogan, “(expletive) ICE,” highlighting the group’s strong opposition to the agency and its practices.

The protesting crowds soon escalated to blocking traffic along major thoroughfares. This prompted city officials to intervene, leading to the closure of Alameda Street between Aliso and Temple streets, as well as Commercial Street, which connects to the 101 Freeway ramps. By 2 p.m., law enforcement declared the gathering an unlawful assembly, citing safety concerns arising from the disruption of traffic flow and public order.

As tensions escalated, police arrested approximately six individuals who refused to disperse from the scene. This action was part of a broader effort to restore order amidst the rising unrest. By around 4 p.m., streets were reopened to the public as police resumed control over the area, effectively ending the demonstration.

The protest at the Metropolitan Detention Center underscores the increasing tensions surrounding immigration policies and the methods employed by federal agencies in enforcing these regulations. Activists continue to explore varied forms of expression to voice their dissent, reflecting a diverse spectrum of opinions on immigration policies in the United States.

Media News Source has reported that demonstrations of this nature are trending in various metropolitan areas, signifying a sustained commitment among activists to challenge and draw attention to immigration-related issues as they unfold across the country.
