Indiana house cleaner shot and killed after arriving at incorrect address.

An incident in Whitestown, Indiana, has resulted in the tragic shooting death of a woman identified as Maria Florinda Rios Perez, following an unfortunate case of mistaken identity related to her work as a cleaner. Local authorities reported that Rios Perez, 32, was shot on Wednesday morning, approximately at 6:50 a.m., after she and her husband, Mauricio Velazquez, arrived at the wrong address to perform a cleaning job.

According to reports from the Whitestown Police Department, officers were dispatched to the residence after receiving a 911 call about a potential break-in. Upon arrival, they discovered Rios Perez suffering from a gunshot wound on the front porch, alongside her husband. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, Rios Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations conducted by law enforcement officials revealed that Rios Perez and Velazquez had not attempted to enter the home but rather had mistakenly approached the wrong residence. The police emphasized that no home invasion or burglary occurred during the incident.

Rios Perez, an immigrant from Guatemala, is remembered as a devoted mother of four, with children ranging in age from nearly one year to 17 years old. Mauricio Velazquez recounted that his wife was shot through the door while they were on the porch, leaving him to hold her as she bled until emergency responders arrived.

The incident has raised significant questions regarding the legality of the shooting, and Boone County prosecutors are currently evaluating the situation to determine whether a crime was committed or if the shooting fell within the parameters of Indiana’s “stand your ground” law. This law allows individuals to use reasonable force, including deadly force, under certain circumstances when they believe they are threatened.

Whitestown authorities have addressed the public’s concerns, urging patience and trust in the investigative process. They cautioned against the spread of unverified information, emphasizing that such misinformation could negatively impact the investigation’s integrity and the individuals involved.

This incident is not isolated, as similar wrongful address shootings have gained attention in other states, leading to legal repercussions and convictions in past cases. As the investigation continues, the community grapples with the ramifications of this tragic event, highlighting lingering concerns over safety and the complexities of gun laws in America.
