Investigation launched for suspect in New Jersey shooting that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old.
In a significant development in a Millville shooting incident, authorities have launched a manhunt for a suspect believed to be directly involved in the incident that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man. The shooting occurred on June 14, 2025, on the 300 block of Maurice Street, where Roshaud Rhett was fatally shot. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office has identified Trasfu Bennett as the primary suspect in this tragic case.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Bennett allegedly approached Rhett in a vehicle before opening fire, leading to the victim’s critical injuries. Subsequently, Rhett was transported to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Following the incident, Bennett has been charged with first-degree murder, as well as two second-degree offenses: unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
In relation to the shooting, another suspect, James Henry, has been implicated. Authorities accuse Henry of returning gunfire at the scene, resulting in charges against him for unlawful possession of a handgun and possession for unlawful purposes, both classified as second-degree offenses. While Bennett was apprehended late Thursday, Henry remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement officials are also seeking a 16-year-old who is believed to have been an accomplice during the incident. Due to the juvenile’s age, his identity has not been disclosed, but he has been described as a runaway and considered vulnerable. Authorities emphasize the importance of locating this individual as part of their ongoing investigative efforts.
The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office has urged anyone with relevant information regarding the whereabouts of James Henry or the unidentified juvenile to reach out via the designated tip line on their website. The active pursuit of these suspects underscores the escalating concerns surrounding gun violence in the region and the imperative for community safety.
As law enforcement continues on the search for Henry and the unnamed teenager, the community of Millville remains on alert, hoping for resolution in this troubling case. Ensuring public assistance is critical in combating such incidents and fostering a safer environment.
