According to Allegheny County Emergency Services, the fire ignited at the facility shortly before noon, but the specific cause of the explosion remains undetermined. Residents reported feeling the ground shake from the blast, as well as smaller explosions that followed. Witnesses, including local resident Amy Sowers, recounted seeing smoke from their properties and hearing an overwhelming presence of emergency vehicles responding to the scene.
