Israeli Forces Fatally Shoot Palestinian Child in the Occupied West Bank

The tragic death of Palestinian children amid escalating violence in the West Bank highlights the urgent need for global attention and accountability. As this ongoing crisis unfolds, the alarming statistics reveal a grim reality: children are increasingly becoming targets in this conflict, underscoring the disproportionate impact of military actions on innocent lives. Addressing this issue requires not only awareness but also a commitment to protecting the most vulnerable, particularly children, from further harm.
Israeli troops have shot and killed a 14-year-old Palestinian boy in the occupied West Bank, amid a continuing wave of increased Israeli military and settler violence throughout the territory. Mohammed Naasan was killed on Friday after Israeli forces stormed the village of al-Mughayyir, near Ramallah, and opened fire on the residents.
Reports indicate that Naasan was shot in the back and chest, as confirmed by the Palestinian news agency Wafa. According to a statement from the Israeli military, they claimed that the boy was “running towards them carrying a rock,” justifying their use of lethal force in this instance. This shooting follows an earlier incident in which Israeli settlers, under military protection, had invaded an area south of al-Mughayyir and fired live rounds.
The current wave of violence against Palestinians comes in the wake of Israel’s severe military operations in the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in the tragic loss of over 71,000 lives since October 2023. Experts assert that this aggression, occurring alongside a push by far-right Israeli politicians for a formal annexation of the West Bank, serves to displace Palestinians from their homes and communities.
United Nations figures show that at least 240 Palestinians, including 55 children, were killed by Israeli forces or settlers in 2025 alone. Additionally, the UN’s humanitarian office reported more than 1,800 settler attacks that resulted in casualties or property damage over the past year, averaging about five incidents per day — the highest level recorded since the office began tracking settler violence in 2006.
In many cases, the Israeli defense forces routinely employ live ammunition, tear gas, and stun grenades during confrontations with Palestinians, often rationalizing their actions by alleging that stones were being thrown at them. Human rights groups, including BTselem, have criticized this approach as an “open-fire policy” that effectively endorses the unjust use of lethal force, while illustrating a gross disregard for Palestinian lives.
Rights advocates have underscored the elevated vulnerability of Palestinian children, particularly under the ongoing violence linked to the Gaza conflict. Defence for Children International-Palestine (DCI-P) noted that rampant systemic impunity has led to a situation where Israeli forces kill without accountability. They stated that as Palestinian children increasingly find themselves under direct threat, the rules governing the engagement of Israeli forces seem to permit targeted violence against children without any existing justification for such lethal force.
