Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Cole Escola join forces for a new Miss Piggy film.

Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are gearing up to bring the iconic Muppet character Miss Piggy back to the big screen in an upcoming film that promises to revitalize this beloved figure for a new generation. The announcement came during a recent episode of the podcast “Las Culturistas,” hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. Lawrence confirmed that both she and Stone will serve as producers of the project, with the screenplay being penned by Cole Escola, a Tony Award-winning playwright and performer.

Escola, who recently made headlines as the first openly non-binary artist to win a Tony for Best Actor in a Play for their work in “Oh, Mary,” is known for innovative storytelling, which raises anticipation for the reimagining of the Miss Piggy story. While specific plot details have yet to be disclosed, the announcement marks a significant shift in focus back to the Muppets, adding a contemporary flair to the classic franchise.

Miss Piggy, a fixture of American pop culture since her debut on “The Muppet Show” in 1976, has captured hearts with her glamorous persona and formidable presence. Voiced originally by Frank Oz, who is also known for his iconic role as Yoda in the “Star Wars” franchise, Miss Piggy made her cinematic debut in 1979 with “The Muppet Movie.” Oz, now 81, last voiced the character in 2007 and has been instrumental in defining her character throughout the years.

The character’s last major film appearance was in “Muppets Most Wanted” in 2014, featuring a star-studded cast that included Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey. However, Miss Piggy’s legacy continues to thrive as interest in the Muppets is rekindled. Earlier this year, news surfaced that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are also producing a reboot of “The Muppet Show” for Disney+, set to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary. This renewed focus on the Muppets is expected to adapt the series for modern audiences while maintaining the charm that has defined the franchise for decades.

As the film progresses, fans eagerly await further information that may shed light on the storyline and creative vision behind this new rendition of Miss Piggy. As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, this project appears to be poised to reinvigorate the cultural relevance of one of the Muppets’ most beloved characters.
