In a tragic sequence of events during a shooting incident on Park Avenue, the last victim was unintentionally caught in the crossfire while seeking refuge. Authorities have identified the victim as Julia Hyman, a 27-year-old associate at Rudin Management. Reports indicate that Hyman was in a panic room-equipped bathroom, initially considered secure, when she stepped out during a brief lull in gunfire. Unbeknownst to her, the shooter, identified as Shane Tamura, was still present and had just moments before fired his assault-style rifle at an office cleaner upon entering the building.

Initially, it was thought that Hyman remained hidden in the panic room and mistakenly assumed the shooter had vacated the premises. However, police investigations revealed that Hyman had left the secure area to use the bathroom and was not aware of the ongoing violence. Surveillance footage indicates that Tamura, having heard her exit the bathroom, turned his attention toward her and subsequently opened fire.

After being struck, Hyman managed to stumble toward a nearby cubicle and collapsed. According to Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry, despite efforts to provide assistance, Hyman succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.

The 27-year-old shooter had reportedly believed himself to suffer from a traumatic brain injury as a result of past high school football injuries. Authorities stated that Tamura intended to target the National Football League’s offices, located on lower floors of the same high-rise. However, he mistakenly took an elevator that bypassed those floors, leading him to the 33rd floor where the incident unfolded.
