LI man charged with attempted murder of teenager in West Babylon shooting incident.

A 22-year-old resident of Long Island has been indicted for attempted murder in connection with a shooting incident involving a teenager at a house party in West Babylon. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office made this announcement on Tuesday, detailing the events that transpired on the night of August 15.

The accused, Savion Jones from Huntington Station, is alleged to have fired several shots at a 17-year-old victim outside the party. According to officials, the victim sustained three gunshot wounds, one of which severed the femoral artery and vein—a critical injury that necessitated immediate medical attention.

Responding to the scene shortly after 10 p.m., Suffolk County police officers performed a life-saving procedure by applying a tourniquet to control the victim’s severe bleeding. Following their intervention, the seriously injured teenager was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for further treatment.

District Attorney Raymond Tierney emphasized the importance of the police officers’ rapid response, suggesting that their actions potentially saved the young man’s life. Investigators later utilized surveillance footage from the scene to identify Jones as the alleged shooter, leading to his arrest by Suffolk County police on August 19.

Subsequently, Jones faced arraignment on charges that include attempted murder, assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. During a court appearance on Tuesday, he was ordered to be held on a bail amount of million in cash, or million in bond, which could also be secured by a million bond.

The next court date for Jones is scheduled for October 6. If he is convicted of the attempted murder charge, he could face a prison sentence of up to 25 years, along with a subsequent five years of post-release supervision.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about gun violence in community settings, prompting discussions about safety measures at social gatherings and the judicial process surrounding violent crimes. The legal proceedings against Jones will be closely monitored as they advance through the court system, reflecting the community’s interest in ensuring accountability for acts of violence.
