Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers found dead in pool of blood, according to reports.
Late Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers was found deceased in a blood-stained bathroom earlier this month, according to reports. Media News Source has obtained details surrounding the discovery of the 48-year-old musician, highlighting the tragic circumstances that led to his death.
A woman, identified solely as Keely, made a heartbreaking call to emergency services, reporting that she found Rivers “face first in a pile of blood” in his home located in Florida. The recording of the 911 call reveals her attempts to perform CPR while expressing her distress. First responders from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Department also attempted to revive Rivers before paramedics arrived and subsequently declared him dead at the scene.
Initial observations by law enforcement indicated that Rivers had sustained an injury, with a cut above his eye suggesting he may have fallen. An incident report described his face and neck as blue, which may be symptomatic of a pulmonary embolism—a serious condition where a blood clot obstructs blood flow to the lungs. However, the exact cause of death remains undetermined as investigations continue. Previously, reports suggested that Rivers was receiving medical care at home at the time of his passing.
According to statements made to deputies, Keely noted that Rivers had undergone a liver transplant in 2018 and was medicated as a result of the procedure. Rivers had temporarily left Limp Bizkit in 2015 after being diagnosed with liver disease, attributed to years of excessive drinking. He later recounted in a published work how he sought treatment for alcohol abuse and underwent a successful transplant, which he described as a “perfect match” that allowed him to return to the band in 2018.
Rivers co-founded Limp Bizkit in the 1990s alongside frontman Fred Durst, and the band has recently experienced a surge in streaming numbers for several of its classic tracks. Notably, their song “Break Stuff” from 1999 topped Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart earlier this week. Despite the tragic loss of Rivers, Limp Bizkit is scheduled to commence their Central and South American “Gringo Papi” tour on November 29 in Mexico City, with the seven-date tour concluding on December 20 in São Paulo, Brazil. Events surrounding Rivers’ untimely death have left fans and the music community mourning the loss of a talented musician whose impact continues to resonate in the industry.
