Lincoln University reviews actions following fatal shooting during Homecoming event.
Lincoln University is in the process of reviewing its safety policies and emergency protocols following a tragic shooting incident during homecoming festivities on Saturday, which resulted in seven individuals being shot, one of whom lost their life. University President Brenda A. Allen announced this initiative in a press conference held on Tuesday, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to enhancing the safety of its community.
The incident occurred in Chester County, Pennsylvania, during a celebratory event that quickly turned chaotic. Classes at Lincoln University are set to resume on Wednesday, but faculty members have been advised to accommodate students who might take additional time to cope with the aftermath of the violence.
In the evolving investigation, law enforcement officials disclosed that they have established a connection between a .380 caliber cartridge recovered at the crime scene and a Glock 28 semiautomatic pistol possessed by 21-year-old Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, who has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm. Following the confirmation of this evidence, a Chester County judge authorized an increase in Morgan-Thompson’s bail to ,000,000. As of now, he has not been charged with homicide or any additional offenses. Notably, Morgan-Thompson is not a current student or alumnus of Lincoln University, raising questions about his presence on campus and any possible ties to the victims.
Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe has reiterated the need for a thorough investigation, urging witnesses and others with relevant information, including video footage from the event, to come forward. He confirmed that the inquiry is complex, with multiple potential suspects believed to be involved in the shooting. The district attorney’s office has reported that of the six injured individuals, all aged between 20 and 25, they are expected to recover. One victim has been identified as Jujuan Jeffers, a 20-year-old from Wilmington, who tragically lost his life.
As part of ensuring campus safety, university counseling services are being made available to students, faculty, and staff to assist them in processing the shock and loss of security they have experienced. President Allen expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and gratitude to the community for their support during this difficult time. The institution remains committed to employing all available resources to safeguard its members and prevent further violence.
For updates on the investigation and further details regarding safety measures at Lincoln University, the community is encouraged to stay connected with university announcements and local law enforcement updates.
