Long Island father convicted of sexually abusing his 8-year-old daughter.

A Long Island father has been found guilty of sexually abusing his eight-year-old daughter over an approximate one-year period, as a jury delivered its verdict on Friday. The man, a 33-year-old resident of Bay Shore, was convicted on multiple counts, including first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, incest in the first degree, and endangering the welfare of a child, as confirmed by Suffolk County prosecutors.

The case centers on incidents that reportedly took place between October 2021 and November 2022. During this time, the victim lived under a shared custody arrangement, alternating weekly between her mother and father. Evidence presented during the trial indicated that the defendant engaged in repeated sexual acts against his daughter, amidst claims that he threatened physical harm should she disclose his actions.

The abuse came to light when the victim displayed signs of distress, particularly becoming “extremely anxious” prior to visits with her father. Concerned about her daughter’s well-being, the mother initiated a conversation with her daughter, who ultimately disclosed the details of the abuse. Following this, both mother and daughter promptly reported the incidents to local authorities, leading to the defendant’s arrest on November 8, 2022.

Following the verdict, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney commended the courage exhibited by the young victim in coming forward with her allegations. He expressed hopes that the jury’s decision would serve as an encouragement to other victims who may be suffering in silence to step forward and seek help.

The father is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on November 26, where he faces a maximum possible sentence of 25 years in prison. In an effort to protect the identity of the victim, the district attorney’s office has withheld the defendant’s name.

This case highlights the critical importance of addressing child abuse and supporting victims in their path to recovery and justice. Authorities continue to advocate for increased reporting of such incidents, emphasizing the need for vigilance and action against abuse in all its forms.
